PostSubject: Argyle vs Rochdale   Argyle vs Rochdale EmptyThu Feb 21, 2019 2:12 pm

Quite an important game, considering we've then got Sunderland/Luton afterwards.

Their fans have strong dislikes of Keith Hill at the moment.

They lost to bottom of the league on Tuesday.

A solid 600 mile round trip.

6 hour coach journey, empty cans, stale farts, piss everywhere.

Pyrotechnical banter when we score.

Argyle 1-3 Rochdale

Attendance 8623.
128 from Dale; horrible little weasels.

Well soak up their piss with our grit. 2 1 to the Argo. Let's face it if we lose to this bunch of no hopers we really are out of hope.

Lost 3-4 to W’don Tuesday. Their defence is leakier than a broken sieve. By rights this has the makings of another 7 goal thriller.

0-0 then, foreshore.

Adams on Rochdale

We have obviously put ourselves in a good position, we are 16th in the league at this moment in time after the results the other night and Rochdale had a game with Wimbledon where it was end-to-end and ended up 4-3 (to Wimbledon) at the end of the match.

That win has given them good hope and we obviously have to try and win the game against Rochdale because we’ve come off a very good point away to Bradford City, we drew against Portsmouth and we won away from home against Peterborough.

From that point of view, it’s another game for us where we hope we can pick up points.

Is there a different dynamic to the game when it is against a team around you, rather than a Portsmouth or Peterborough?

Yeah, I think that winning the game is obviously hugely beneficial. Not losing the game as well is beneficial, but we will go and try and win it.

One win in ten for Rochdale, does that make a difference in terms of what they will face here?

It does in a way because they have out themselves under pressure and they have not been able to get the results that they want and that happens at some stages of the season.

We just have to continue the run that we are on.

Keith Hill is coming back, he is a former Argyle player, doers that make a difference when you go back to a former club?

Yeah, I think that Keith will enjoy coming back, he always does. He had some good times here as a player and when you do go back to your old team, then you look forward to seeing the friends you had here before and managing against them.

I am sure he will get a good reaction because he's been here before and had some good times.

You mentioned that they played against Wimbledon in midweek, so does that help your cause at all?

It doesn’t help us, but it doesn’t hinder us either. It’s a difficult one sometimes, they were at home, so they haven’t had much travelling to do, but we will have had the few days off that they haven’t had b to recover.

The pitch wasn’t great at Bradford, but you’re back at Home Park, so with a better pitch, do you expect more from the flair players than last week?

Yeah, we’ve just had some seed put into the surface and we’ve had fertiliser put on it to try and get the growth coming. We are hopefully coming into a good bit of weather  and that will allow us to get even more grass on the pitch than we have at this moment in time.

It is in good condition for this time of the year compared to Bradford.

Players always enjoy being on good surfaces and we have a lot of technically very good players.

How much praise does the groundsman deserve, they often don’t get mentioned, but they do a great job, don’t they?

They have to because we have had more games than normal on the pitch and they have been very helpful for getting the pitch into its correct state and that’s what’s happened.

A lot of young players played in that reserve game, when do you start making a decision on their futures?

We talk about that all the time. We have technical football meetings every two months with the Academy staff, Under 23 staff, Under 18 staff and first team staff. So we discuss that throughout the year.

We’ve had player reviews last week with all of the Under 23s and the Under 18s, we did a couple of weeks before that, so they all understand where they are at playing-wise and understand what they have to do to try and get a contract.

We usually do it towards the end of the season because we have a number of fixtures. Not everyone is going to get a contract next year, but we have a good idea of the ones we do want to keep on and there are ones that we obviously have question marks over as well and we have to be sure whether we give them a contract or allow them to move on.

You made it clear last summer that you wanted a separate coach to train the youngsters. Looking at it a year on, do you think that has benefited them and have you seen the benefit?

I think we have from the point of view of the Premier League Cup. We have done well in that and in the Central league the other day, we had second year professionals, first year professionals and senior players all playing in the same team, so that has definitely benefited the younger players.

We have progressed because we have moved into the Central League and the Premier League Cup and I think that is benefiting not only the younger players, but the first team players as well.

Tafari Moore and Michael Cooper didn’t play in the Central League, why was that?

Tafari Moore was unwell at the start of the week , so he was unavailable.

Michael Cooper is going to play in the (South West) Peninsula game on Friday night and then he will play on Monday in the Premier League Cup, so he has two games in a short space of time.

He’s obviously had all the Premier League Cup games this year. He’s played in the Checkatrade Trophy as well and had a lot of game time in the Peninsula League. He’s played two games in the Central League, so has Matt Macey, and Kyle Letheren has played three games, so they have all got some game time.

Dan Rooney is another that played on Tuesday, he is out on loan at Truro. How closely are you keeping an eye on his development and how impressed have you been with what he’s doing there?

He’s one of the ones that we are obviously keeping an eye on. We are keeping an eye on his progress and he is 20 years of age now, so he is not a young kid anymore, he needs to kick on and that is what we are trying to emphasise at this moment in time.

He’s been given a lot of action now with Truro and played in the majority of the Premier League Cup games except for one and he's been involved in the Central League, so it’s been very good for his progress.

There are injuries to Connor Grant and Jamie Ness, are they any closer to returning?

They are both in full training today, so both are back in with the main squad. Now, it is about how quickly we can get them up to speed.

But we are hopeful that they will train today, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and they can maybe play on Monday in the Premier League Cup.

They won’t play at the weekend or be ready for Sunderland. They need to play a few games.

Connor Grant has been out for over three months and Jamie Ness has been out for two months now.

In terms of first team player contracts, do you have a rough idea of when you will look at players that are out of contract? I believe Ruben Lameiras and Graham Carey’s contracts are up in the summer?

Yeah, we have got a board meeting this month to discuss the budget and then once we have discussed the budget, it goes to the March board meeting to hopefully confirm and if it’s not that, it will hopefully be the April one to confirm what the budget is for next season.

I obviously can’t start talking to players until we know what the budget is going to be because the majority of my budget that was increased last year went on resigning players that were already at the football club, so from that point of view, we can’t do anything until we find out what the playing budget is going to be for next season.

A game to potentially propel Argyle to the heady heights of mid-table obscurity. Home Park giddy with excitement as Paul Anderson scores a hat-trick from the bench, whilst also finding time to direct a film and complete a DJ set in between moves.

Cor. Wish I was going.
