Always on the cards and unforunately many clubs and indeed buisnesses will have to follow suit. All thanks to some twat and their bat eating ways.

Plymouth Argyle Football Club has today (Wednesday, July Cool begun an organisational restructure programme in order to secure the long-term future of the club.

In the months that have passed since the EFL season was interrupted, it has become increasingly clear that the global COVID-19 crisis will have a significant impact on the football industry, particularly for clubs in the lower leagues.

As detailed in our recently published accounts for the six-month period up until June 2019, 60% of Argyle’s revenues come from match-day activities alone. With ticketing, hospitality and commercial opportunities limited in the medium term, the club faces a significant and unprecedented financial shortfall before the end of the 20/21 EFL season.

The club has undertaken a number of infrastructure improvements in recent years in order to support our ambition of becoming a self-sustaining Championship club. However, as discussed in the recent note to supporters by club Chairman Simon Hallett, Argyle is not immune to the very present existential threat that comes from no match-day revenues.

As such, the club has been forced to realign the structure of the organisation to ensure survival in the short-term, and growth towards the ambition of becoming a financially sustainable, upwardly-mobile football club beyond that.

Since the beginning of this crisis, the club has aimed to be transparent and supportive in its dealings with staff members and supporters. As previously outlined, this support included topping up furloughed employees’ salaries beyond the government Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme funding until the end of June.

Although no final decisions have been taken on individual roles at this stage, the club anticipates that a number of jobs will be placed at risk during the consultation process, and, unfortunately, in some cases, redundancies will be necessary.

Argyle prioritises its duty of care to staff during this period and will ensure that all affected colleagues are engaged with transparently, fairly, and supportively, throughout the process.

Although the club’s aim has been to remain as open and communicative as possible during this crisis, we will be offering no further comment on this matter, and ask that supporters and media remain respectful of club employees’ right to privacy.

Everybody is still on furlough for a while and I'm sure the club will have business rate holiday and maybe even grant money. Stewards and lots of match day staff will simply not be hired on. Seems a bit early to be talking about job cuts. Sounds harsh.

i think its refreshing of the club to be open and early with this news as the ones that will be hammered are as you say the match day staff as there is no point hiring them when we don't know when we all can go back to home park or how many will be allowed when they are.

At least they have the heads up to go look for other work when the furlough is ended not thats theres alot out there in truth or start the uc application.

Without knowing any of the job descriptions, I reckon you could take 4-5 roles from that list to save £100-120k a year pretty easily.

I'm sure some could be combined and most likely everyone down to Head Chef is required. After that, trimming numbers or combining roles be 4 or 5 would easily clear that amount. If that isn't enough you can always repeat the exercise in 6 months time.

There are quite a few ‘Heads of Department’ names there. It’ll probably be the underlings below them that face the chop though, especially the ones working directly on the conferencing/catering side which at the minute is obviously non-existent.

Jon Backs position clearly looks precarious. But no matter who they are, it’s a bit crass to wish unemployment on people though.

Aye - I've been made redundant before. Not a pleasant experience. Especially if your financially committed.

If Brent was still here this announcement would have been made back in March. Furlough wages wouldn’t have been topped up, and by now we’d have been the new Wigan, or worse, Bury.

he would have been leaning on the GT's and the fans to fund it all again.

I think there will be many a club going down this avenue due to covid-19. At the end of all this, whenever that be, how much of L1, L2 and the National League will be remaining ?

Careful, you'll have a baying mob of pitchfork waving loons after you, if you say things like that!

Best avoid phrases like "Multi millionaire US based financial markets speculator sacks loyal staff after celebrating promotion"

all clubs will be doing lay offs including the really rich ones as no club wants to pay match day staff when there isn't a need for them at the moment.
some clubs will doing more than lay off match day staff, just look at exeter they let all out of contract players go and most of the coaching staff cause they cant afford to offer them new deals and that's not including the behind the scenes staff.

There is no point playing politics or what's right or wrong as its horrid situation but its unavoidable and not just for argyle, if they can keep the number low im sure they will.

Match day staff simply won't be hired until there is a match on. It's not about them. Mind you looking at the staff list it does look a bit top heavy on chiefs and low on Indians.
