Listened to a rather heated discussion on 606 about that, the retired professionals were all in favour of him getting a kick, the public weren't.

Personally i'm with the players on this, Collison took one for the team. Disrepect your opponent and expect them to disrespect your shins in return, simples.

I find it amazing that "pros" find this is intolerable but cheating, diving and feigning injury is deemed respectful.

There are rules that the football league have written down and there are rules that professionals have that aren't written down.

Every profession has them, i've never had a problem taking a p1ss taking colleague down a peg or two when required (no shins were kicked but collars were gripped and held up against walls). It comes up very infrequently because, in all walks of life, the unwritten rules are broken far less often than the written ones.

They're rife in the military and the military is better for them.
