Whatever you hear from the government and their pals that own the big pub chains this is excellent news. We could all buy beer cheaper than most landlords of a rented pub, they must buy their beer from the landlords, the price of this beer will be increased if the turnover of the pub increased as would their rent. It was a common ploy to let a landlord build a business up for them, bankrupt him via high beer and rent prices then put their own manager in to run the place for a wage, good business although not at all ethical. The bill also allows for rent reviews so gone are the days that as well. Free market should be for everybody not just the people at the top of the chain.
I predict that the chains will now have to release pubs onto the open market and the leaseholders will be able to make a living now so less pubs will actually close down.

Enterprise Inn's are notoriously bad for uplifting the price of a barrel to the point where the landlord has to sell a huge amount of beer to make any money. Our local is such a pub and although they've recently invested £300k on a refurb they have struggled to find the right person to take it over. Hopefully this will help but no doubt Enterprise will start charging corkage or some such similar scheme?

The landlords can now ask for rent reviews so they can't load it that way. Funnily enough my local got bought by Enterprise, they leased it to a couple who then got screwed by Enterprise and went bust and lost their life savings. The pub then closed for about eighteen months until Enterprise were made to sell it by the banks. The pub whilst in private ownership has always done well and is doing well now, Enterprise were a nightmare for all concerned.
