The futures of Plymouth Argyle's five on-loan players still to be decided

NO DECISIONS have been taken yet on the futures of the five loan signings who are currently part of Plymouth Argyle's squad.

Manager Derek Adams has, however, been in regular contact with the players' respective clubs and further discussions will take place before the end of the month.

The quintet of Hiram Boateng, Craig Tanner, Oscar Threlkeld, Christian Walton and Luke Croll are on loan to Argyle until after the away game against Carlisle United on January 2.

Boateng has been out of action since the end of October because of an ankle ligament injury and has returned to Crystal Palace for treatment.

However, the 19-year-old had been an ever present for the Pilgrims in all competitions before his enforced lay-off.

Tanner, signed on loan from Reading in pre-season, has also featured regularly for Argyle during the first four months of the campaign.

Adams admitted the situation surrounding his five loan recruits was not a clearcut one.

He told Herald Sport: "I haven't spoken to any of the players yet, but I'm in constant dialogue with their clubs.

"We will just assess things between now and the January period."

Adams continued: "It's not always in our hands. We can push things along, but the other clubs have got to make decisions as well."

Walton and Croll were recent arrivals at Home Park, from Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace respectively, after injuries to Luke McCormick and Peter Hartley.

Adams would not be drawn on whether he would try to extend the loans for all or any of the five players beyond January 2.

He said: "We will have to look at that. It's about the loan players putting in performances, like anybody in the squad, to prove they should stay.

"They have all done really well so far this season and it's something that has been very positive."

Meanwhile, Adams has revealed that attempts to loan out some of Argyle's young squad players have been unsuccessful so far.

Striker Louis Rooney and left-sided player Callum Hall are first-year professionals while defender Aaron Bentley, 20, has yet to feature for the first team under Adams.

Striker Tyler Harvey, also 20, has also been limited to only five substitute appearances this term.

Adams said: "We have tried to get a number of them out on loan but for one reason or another that hasn't happened.

"We wanted to give them a taste of first team action, either in the National League or League Two.

"It's important at their age that they are pushing to play in first teams. That could help their development in the near term."
