Have you just about had enough of social media ?

I have. What was once a wonderful thing back in the 1980s has now become a mainstream monster.
I still keep in there, and try to remember to use the internet for what it was intended. The sharing of information.
Wiki, weather, non establishment approved news, niche interests, it's still all beautifully there, but becoming more and more faint, and difficult to find.
Big social media dominates and is a cultural horror show. Now disengaged in my household. The demise of Pasoti has long since helped me to join up the dots as to who has colonised a once enjoyable idea..
ATD, along with 2 niche interest forums, is now the last of my long participation with the brave new computer world I swam with. It's all gone a bit smelly. Smells of the High Street and those that shop there. A bit like frequenting the wrong bar or restaurant, or accepting an invite to a house party you know you shouldn't have entertained..
Any thoughts ? .........including feck off.

I use neither facebook nor twitter but from the little I've seen of it I can only deduce that it's little more than an excercise in voyeurism, vanity, bullshit and bravado. Not for me.

Plus all these reality fecking programmes, I mean what is it with watching people eat or mentioning "I'm just getting on the bus for some shopping" what a world we're living in ffs !

I myself have never understood social users posting avatars of other young men not known to them with quiffs and beards.
Not to mention the sweet tattoos that no doubt have an Eastern importance in the scheme of football life. Very strange behaviour. Maybe it's a man thang in an Alan Partridge "Tex" sort of way. Honk honk..

Think 2016 maybe the year reality tv is sent packing......kind of.

No problem with Facebook AFAIC, recently made contact with some old friends on it, some specialist groups on there as well which can be both stimulating and informative. For sure it has its downside but I guess you could say that about just about any other human activity, nature of the beast really.

Twitter is just the internet in microcosm. If you're so inclined you'll find photos of what people are having for dinner, cat videoes,all the latest TOWIE guff and all sorts of dribble the world can largely do without.

On the other hand if you choose those you follow carefully it is a vibrant, exciting, interesting source for all sorts of wonder and the people power aspect of it delivers instant eyewitness accounts of pretty much every major event that happens.

Mrs Drake was once one of those who couldn't see the point in it. I explained to her that she never would if she never tried it and didn't follow anybody so she dipped her toe in the water and followed a few local community interest twitterers and now she wouldn't be without it despite, to the best of my knowledge, never having tweeted anything.

Facebook is similar but has more cat videoes, TOWIE and what people are having for their dinner on it (in my experience anyway) and, as Greenskin says, it is an amazingly powerful tool for keeping in contact with friends.

Just like the net as a whole they are both what you make of them.

Let's not beat around the bush, the internet is a paradise for the perusal of porn, everything else is secondary.

You could learn from social media. Try getting to the point in 140 characters or less by cutting out all your smug bleating.

The fun in conversation is all about the side streets. Who's interested in some one else's concrete conclusions, that are usually one from two dull possibilities. "We'll go up ...... no, we'll stay down. Ah, alright then".
