Exeter City aren't allowed to own dogs?

IF Plymouth Argyle fans are keen to poke fun at their Devon rivals heading into Saturday's derby they could do worse than ask: why Exeter City aren't allowed to own dogs?

Having seen City concede an injury-time equaliser for the second time in four home games and drop their eighth point from a winning position this season, the punch-line isn't hard to guess.

However, for manager Paul Tisdale, the fans and players this is no laughing matter. Had the Grecians managed to hold onto the leads they have worked hard to create this season they would be sitting in the automatic promotion places and not floundering in mid-table, 15 points adrift of their bitter, table-topping rivals.

Tisdale knows City will have to improve on that aspect of their game if they are to avoid leaving Home Park this Saturday with their tails between their legs

Exeter preview on the match

City’s inability to hold onto a lead was played out once again last Saturday with Crawley snatching a point in the 92nd minute, and Paul Tisdale will look to put this, alongside having been linked with the Fulham job during the week, behind him and channelholmes_dive a classic derby day performance from his side. City’s injury list remains a worry, with Pym, Ribeiro, Oyeleke, Oakley, Holmes and Hoskins amongst those who missed out last week. Jamie Reid returned to the bench after his loan spell at Truro and gives Tisdale extra attacking options.

With a new manager at the helm in Scotsman Derek Adams, Plymouth have made a storming start to the season and sit proudly atop the table a full five points clear going into the second Devon Derby of the season. The key has been consistency in front of goal – the Pilgrims have only failed to score in two league games so far – despite Reuben Reid having missed several games. Reid has six goals to his name this season, but it is Jake Jervis with 10 (seven in the league) who has been the leading light in front of goal. Depending on whether Plymouth make a loan signing – their former youth player Christian Walton has been mentioned – there may be a familiar face between the sticks. James Bittner, who spent a couple of seasons at City after relegation to the Conference, finally made his first Football League start in the 2-1 win at York last weekend when Luke McCormick was ruled out with injury.

The sides have already met at Home Park this season in the JPT, the hosts running out comfortable 2-0 winners through goals from reuben_reidBoateng and Tanner, a win made all the more unbearable for those listening on the radio by BBC Devon’s absurd decision to invite some idiot from “Big Brother” to be a co-commentator! Last season wasn’t any better for City as Plymouth took all six points – the corresponding fixture last August saw a depleted City lose 3-0 to goals from Harvey, Reid and Nelson, while it was 3-1 back at the Park in February thanks to a Reid hat-trick, Davies bagging City’s goal as City failed to make Oliver Lee pay for getting himself sent off. The Football League head to head shows Plymouth on 27 wins, City on 17 and 20 draws

Deal Done

DEREK Adams has gone back to the future to find goalkeeping cover for injured goalkeeper Luke McCormick.
The Pilgrims’ manager has borrowed Brighton & Hove Albion’s former Pilgrims custodian Christian Walton.

The 20-year-old Cornishman, who returns to Home Park on loan until January

BREAKING NEWS

Exeter Game Now All Ticket

THE 102nd Devon Expressway Derby is now an all-ticket game.

Saturday's Sky Bet League 2 meeting between table-toppers Argyle and Exeter is approaching Home Park's available capacity for the eagerly anticipated clash.

With the gate likely to see the largest crowd for the derby in more than a decade, the Pilgrims have taken the decision to withdraw pay-on-the-gate facilities.

However, tickets will stay on sale from the Home Park ticket office up until the game's kick-off time - as long as there are tickets that remain to be sold.

The club is also urging fans to take into account busy pre-Christmas traffic in the city and pressure on the Home Park turnstiles when planning their journey to the game.

The message from the Pilgrims is: use public transport whenever possible and arrive early.

Supporters are also being asked to make sure they sit in the seat that corresponds to the number on their ticket.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE DEVON EXPRESSWAY DERBY THIS SATURDAY…

• THE match kicks off at 3pm.

• ADMISSION is by ticket only. Tickets, if available, will be sold up to kick-off time, but we would urge supporters to buy well in advance as there is no way of telling.

• ADVANCE ticket prices are £21 for adults; £16 for over 65 and students; and £8 for under 18s, rising by £2 on match-day.

• A FAMILY Ticket for one adult and one child in the Family Zone For All is £27, rising to £31 on match-day.

• TURNSTILES to the Mayflower, Grandstand, Devonport End, Lyndhurst, and Family Zone For All open at 1.30pm.

• SUPPORTERS must sit in the seat corresponding to the details on their ticket.

• THE Home Park Ticket Office has extended hours on Friday, from 9am-6pm.

• TICKETS are also available online at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

• TO avoid anticipated pressure on turnstiles, the Green Army is encouraged to arrive earlier than normal.

• WE are aware that Plymouth suffers from heavy traffic problems at weekends and so would encourage supporters to leave plenty of time for their journey to Home Park.

• FANS are urged to use public transport whenever possible.

• FREE parking is available adjacent to the ground, but this will fill up very early in the day. Street parking in the area is available, but please take care to note local restrictions.

• BEFORE the game, Reuben Reid will be presented with the League 2 PFA Player of the Month award for October.

• AS the teams come out, there will be a massive fans’ display taking in the Lyndhurst Road side and Devonport end of Home Park.

• AT half-time, there will be a Walking Football match between national champions Argyle and their Exeter counterparts.

Exeter close to 850 tickets sold, Might get to 900 by close of business tomorrow they said.

Yeah I know, I was just expressing some incredulity. The twats obviously haven't driven around Plymouth at 8.30am or at 5pm, Monday to Friday. Weekends, by and large, are a relative breeze.

and indeed you residents of fair city have it easy compared to some of the cities I see in this country. I'm guessing the 43,000 who witnessed football at Home Park previously all took public transport and paid up front for electronically issued tickets. It seems we have so much technology at our disposal but we can't get 13,000 into a stadium on time. Progress eh?

And the police are getting ready

Drones part of police plans as Plymouth Argyle take on Exeter in Devon derby

There will be a large police presence at Home Park this Saturday as Plymouth Argyle take on Exeter City in Sky Bet League 2

ADDITIONAL police units will be deployed this weekend when Plymouth Argyle face rivals Exeter City at Home Park.

The Devon derby, one of the biggest games of the year for local fans, will kick-off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

The Herald has learnt that the game has been listed as a Category C - just one rating below the highest category - which, in the past, has seen around 200 officers deployed to deal with security matters.

With a bumper crowd in attendance, the police operation is expected to include mounted officers, a police dog unit, a helicopter and the possibility of drone use.

In additional, Devon and Cornwall Police revealed they might use a CBRN barrier - a large, solid steel barrier deployed from a trailer which stands for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear - to keep fans apart at the end of the game when flashpoints typically occur.

Following on from last week's 5-3 defeat against Millwall in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, two Argyle fans were arrested for affray on the outskirts for the stadium.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they assisted the club in identifying fans, who were subsequently banned from attending future games at Home Park

I wonder if Ebenezer Brent can stretch to paying an hours minimum wage to a few extra operators so that ALL AVAILABLE turnstiles can be utilised in the Lyndhurst on Saturday? Y'know, just in the faint hope that we can act slightly less 'village' than we do every other week.

I won't be holding my breath.

Spot on Czar.

It is not the amount of people who turn up that is the problem it is about having the staff to handle those crowds efficiently.

In Argyle terms under Brent we sense a big crowd, invest nothing in staffing and then blame the crowd for getting there late. Bollocks.
