| i have to say if this variant is weaker than the others why was there a massive push to get people to get a 3rd jab when it doesnt seem needed unless your constitution is weak and requires extra protection of course.
whats the odds when yet another variant is born we end being told to have a 4th jab and the cycle continues. |

whats the odds when yet another variant is born we end being told to have a 4th jab and the cycle continues. Because of basic maths Angers. If Omicron had the SAME transmission rate as Delta, and is 50% less effective at putting people in hospital than Delta, that results in half as many hospital admissions. BUT Omicron is showing to be as high as 500% MORE transmissible than Delta. So, if it’s 50% worse at putting people in hospital....but 500% better ( 5 times better ) at infecting people, basic maths means WAY more people are hospitalised. To use the football example again, many clubs are showing these kinds of increases - 400 to 500% more infections. Best case scenario for me, is that the NHS somehow copes with the case numbers that are coming their way, and genuine herd immunity is achieved because of just how rapid Omicron spreads. It’s great that it doesn’t hospitalise and kill as many, but case numbers will still probably bring the country to its knees with people off sick in the coming weeks, I reckon. |

| China are finding out that their widely used vaccine is ineffective against omicron.....a laboratory study found, in a major blow to Biejing and countries it supplies with the jab.
CoronaVac did not produce enough levels of neutralising antibodies to protect against the omicron varient.
It is being suggested that people who had two doses of CoronaVac should choose a booster from a different firm.....(do Chinese peasants get that choice ?)
Study subjects who got Germany's BioNTech SE's mRNA booster saw their antibodies against omicron improve.
So that could be upto 1.5 billion Chinese and others open to catching the omicron varient.....this Covd-19 could still have a long way to go before burning itself out.
BUT.....Happy Christmas everyone.....we'll wait for the New Year to arrive before we decide if it might be prosperous or not. |

| My boy has had his PCR test result this morning and it's positive but me and the missus have done lateral flow tests and are negative. We don't have to self isolate but we aren't going to see anybody in case we pass it on. |

What a pisser. A mate of mine has just had his Xmas plans turned upside down. He was hosting about a dozen on Xmas Day, including his uncle who is having cancer treatment. All the family have been doing lateral flows since Tuesday to make sure his Uncles health isn’t compromised, and he’s come back positive this morning. |

It's carnage for the Xmas dinner plans we have had to call off mother and father and brother for Xmas day and other son, wife and new baby for boxing day. At the end of the day it could always be worse and if this had happened a month ago we would have had to shut down the business which would have been a right pisser. Plenty of Goose for the 3 of us. |

| Hospitalisations went up 27% in a week in England and highest since March 5 2021. The old and vulnerable [with respiratory issues] not presenting to hospital in large numbers as yet and it could be 7 - 10 days before those numbers may start to rise.
SKY NEWS
Over 300,000 cases reported for the three day festive period. |

| Not in this house it's not. The bhey has done his two clear tests and me and the missus have been clear all through. Tonight we were due to godown to Kernow for the evening to stay with friends we haven't seen for ages now my mate has it. He hasn't had his jabs but had the bug in August. His missus was looking forward to her daughter coming home from Barcelona where she lives but they had to put her off when she got to Exeter. She's going to stay with her Aunty who she can't stand. Fooking carnage on my social life. |

| Pandemic over? Record cases hospital admissions up yet an average of 84 deaths a day. This could be the beginning of the end. |

| Just read an article suggesting that Scots and Welsh folk will be slipping over the border into England to celebrate NYE.
A Scottish government spokesperson has asked for Scots not to do this.

| A row erupted over the Government’s Covid figures last night as it emerged almost one in three in hospital with the virus was admitted for unrelated reasons.
NHS statistics revealed the proportion of so-called ‘incidental’ coronavirus admissions had risen to a record 29 per cent – sparking claims that official figures were misleading.
These cases are from patients taken to hospital for an unrelated reason, such as a fall or broken bone, who just happen to then discover they also have the virus.
It means thousands of those who are being counted as Covid admissions – which would suggest they are severely ill with the condition – are not actually suffering seriously with the virus.
Many only tested positive once they were on wards – and may have simply caught the virus while there.

Omicron is “not the same disease we were seeing a year ago” and high Covid death rates in the UK are “now history”, a leading immunologist has said.
Sir John Bell, regius professor of medicine at Oxford University and the government’s life sciences adviser, said that although hospital admissions had increased in recent weeks as Omicron spreads through the population, the disease “appears to be less severe and many people spend a relatively short time in hospital”. Fewer patients were needing high-flow oxygen and the average length of stay was down to three days, he said.
